You don?t have to carve holes in the top. It is NOT easy to assemble. I love these and they look so much nicer than the average adhesive hook. I am really happy I chose this trainer and what Magene has brought to the market of having an affordable direct drive trainer. This is a must have. Would definitely recommend them if you?re having issues with the fit of the original ear tips that come with the earbuds. This renders it useless. Make sure your stuff is compatible. The weight of it isn?t heavy at all either, not hard to carry around for long periods if you need too. So go 2 sizes up maybe.
