Once you put the shelves in it feels just a sturdy as many other shoe racks. I used it on two of my cats-- one is an elderly gentleman who doesnt bathe himself well. I think that having the entire 6 bikes altogether would have been too tight, but spacing each section to separate joists worked well so far.
